Yesterday we drove from Ceduna to Ryelands (almost 8 hours). It all went swimmingly well. We had lunch in the park at Port Augusta to get ready for the last 3 hours to here.
The Farm stay is at the back of the old (but still useable) shearing shed. It seems to be the owner's retirement project. This station was established in the 1830's. It is great sheep country with rolling hills. Around them are sheep and cropping properties. Of course further North there are the Clare vineyards.
The shearing shed smells of lanoline, and right now is occupied by the neighbour's flock making their usual maaa noise awaiting being shorn tomorrow. It reminds me lots of the shearing shed I spent a bit of time in my youth managing sheep to be crutched.
So a relaxed start then off to lunch at Watervale Hotel. The hotel is obviously aiming at a well heeled market and is probably rocking over the weekend. Today was quite, we tried Kingfish Ceviche (Brian) and Smoked Trout Croquets (Gail) and a couple of vegetables and salad, plus wine and desert. A relatively light lunch, but delicious.
Tomorrow we are off to Harvest Kitchen near Tanunda and then travelling to Keith. This is another change as we had been thinking about going to Bordertown, but the caravan park looks to be too close to the highway for comfort. On the Eyre Highway trucks are few enough this doesn't need to be a concern, but Melbourne-Adelaide might be different.
Finally Brian got the awning up (and pegged down) now we think we understand this too. Perhaps a bit late in the trip, but hopefully mastered.
